Air fryer apple crumble

Apple crumble

A proper bubbling crumble for two to four people in 20 minutes, no oven needed.

Small dishes are where the air fryer beats the oven outright. You get the same bubbling fruit and crisp topping without heating a full oven for 45 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 4 apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1 tbsp caster sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 100g plain flour
  • 60g cold butter, cubed
  • 50g demerara sugar and 30g oats

Method

  1. Fruit. Toss the apples with the caster sugar and cinnamon, then pack into a small oven-safe dish.
  2. Crumble. Rub the butter into the flour until it looks like breadcrumbs, then stir in the demerara and oats.
  3. Top. Scatter the crumble over the fruit, keeping it loose rather than pressed down.
  4. Air fry. Cook at 340°F for 20 minutes until golden and bubbling at the edges.
Test-kitchen tip

Check your dish fits the basket before you start, and cover with foil if the top browns before the fruit softens.

Simple and it delivers. I upped the seasoning a touch.
